Call for Entries: The deadline for entries to the 25th annual GE Edison Award Program was 10 January 2008. We'd like to thank everyone who submitted an entry. Winners for 2007 will be announced 27 May 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 2007 GE Edison Award competition is open to those lighting professionals who creatively employ significant use of GE light sources (lamps and/or LEDs) in a lighting design project completed during the 2007 calendar year (from 01 January 2007 through 31 December 2007).

A panel of lighting professionals, including one representative from GE, will judge entries using a point scale based on the following criteria:

  • Functional excellence (15 points)
  • Architectural compatibility (15 points)
  • Effective use of state-of-the-art lighting products and techniques (15 points)
  • Appropriate color, form and texture revelation (15 points)
  • Energy effectiveness (15 points)
  • Cost effectiveness (15 points)
  • Additional features (10 points)

Projects scoring the highest number of points will qualify for Awards of Merit and Awards of Excellence. Awards for Sustainable Design are given to those projects that demonstrate exemplary, sustainable lighting design. These designs, while providing high-quality lighting, should minimize the use of energy, maximize the use of daylighting, avoid skyward illumination and ensure system durability and maintainability. The Award for Residential Design will be selected by the judges based on existing entry criteria. More

Qualifying entries remain anonymous throughout the judging process and are evaluated equally, regardless of type or size of project. The decision of the judges is final.

All entrants will be invited to an awards ceremony, which will take place Tuesday, 27 May 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA on the evening prior to the opening of LightFair International. At that time, designers who have been designated as winners of Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit, Awards for Sustainable Design and the Award for Residential Design will be recognized with personalized plaques acknowledging their lighting design achievements.

The identity of the 2007 GE Edison Award Winner, who is selected from among the Awards of Excellence, will remain confidential until announced at the Awards ceremony. The winner will receive a personalized Steuben crystal trophy and continued publicity throughout the following year. A distinctive plaque will also be presented to the owner of the winning installation.
