THROUGHOUT THE HOME
Replace 5 incandescent lights with CFLs!
If every American home replaced the just one light bulb with one that is ENERGY STAR® qualified, we would save about $600 million each year in energy costs. CFL bulbs now come in all shapes and sizes and fit virtually every fixture inside of your home and out. Learn more about GE Energy Smart™ products.

Reduce, reuse, and recycle!
Recycle newspapers, beverage containers, paper and other goods. Create dedicated areas to place these items (a nice newspaper and magazine basket or mini trash bin for recyclable metal cans) — that way you can recycle them all at one time when they're full. Also, when shopping for new items for your home, check out the labels to find products made from recycled materials. Now that's coming full circle!

IN THE KITCHEN
Keep the toxins out!
There are many household cleaners and personal care products by brands such as Method® that are made from nontoxic ingredients. Check out Method products.
Throw in the towel!
Use hand towels, when you can, or consider no-touch paper towel dispensers; they are stylish and cut down on cross contamination and paper waste.
IN THE LIVING ROOM
Decorate with live plants!
Freshen the indoor air while adding color and beauty to your living room and other rooms in your house.
IN THE BEDROOM
Go natural!
Bamboo is made from a rapidly renewable resource that doesn't require pesticides to grow. And before picking up a pillow made of Non-synthetic fabric, rest your head on a pillow made with feather, wool or cotton fills. You'll never go back!
Paint it (zero) VOC!
If planning to repaint the bedroom, help keep toxic materials out of your sleeping area (and our landfills) by using low- or zero-VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paints.
IN THE HOME OFFICE
Go paperless!
We all hate getting our bills in the mail anyway, so why not switch to online delivery of monthly statements. Most utilities, banks and credit card companies can help eliminate paper waste — and help you de-clutter your workspace
Unplug electronics when you're away!
You have so many electronic devices that are just draining energy (and money!) even when they're powered off and just appear to be innocently plugged in. If you must keep your computer plugged in all night, shut it down instead of keeping it in "sleep" mode.
IN THE BATHROOM
Save water!
Take showers instead of baths (though we're not going to stop you from rewarding yourself with a relaxing bath once in a while). But don't take 30 minute showers, either! Turn the faucet off while shaving or brushing your teeth. Did you know a running faucet wastes one gallon of water a minute? And always remember, if it's leaking... don't wait; fix it!
IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM
Shoot for the Star!
The average American home spends up to $1,900 on energy costs every year. Change to appliances that have earned the ENERGY STAR® and you can save $80 a year in energy costs, while helping to protect the environment.
OUTSIDE THE HOME
Hold your water!
Yes, it's time to talk H2O again. Only water your lawn when needed and do it during the coolest part of the day, early morning is best.
Go native!
You can create a very attractive landscape using native plants, which are already adapted to the climate and soil you plant them in, meaning less need to water them.
