GE Unveils New Leadership Retrofit Lamp Solutions

BUDAPEST, June 2009 - GE Lighting has today announced the launch of its new range of High Output
LED retrofit lamps, which enable the replacement of a range of types of mains voltage reflector
lamps, opening up dramatic energy and maintenance saving possibilities for users.
Offering low cost of ownership, these lamps achieve dramatic through-life savings and fast
paybacks of within 1 year are achievable in professional applications.
“Unlike many retrofit LED lamps on the market today, the new lamps from GE maintain a high
standard of colour quality and do not compromise on light output” -says Andrew Davies, LED Senior
Product Manager,. “Very significantly, they are designed to fit the international standard size
& shape for the lamps they are intended to replace, meaning users will not get unpleasant
surprises when attempting to retrofit them into existing sockets” -Mr. Davies added.
Included in the range is a GU10 lamp. Consuming only 4 Watts of power, the GU10 offers
superior beam intensity to a 20 watt halogen GU10 lamp, whilst matching the wide flood beam angle
given by halogen. This allows for 80% energy saving to be achieved. Colour temperature is a warm
white 3100K whilst colour rendering is more than 80.
The same technology is also incorporated into an R50 lamp with an E14 (SES) base. This allows
effective replacement of incandescent R50 lamps of up to 40 watts, leading to a 90% energy saving
possibility.
Completing the range is a family of R63 lamps with E27 and B22 bases. Consuming just 7 watts
of energy, these are available in two beam angles. The wide flood 36 degree version gives a peak
intensity of 520 candelas – significantly higher than a 40 watt and very close to a 60 watt
incandescent lamp. These lamps also have narrow flood 20 degree versions with a peak intensity of
1200 candela – allowing effective replacement of 50 watt standard halogen PAR20 lamps or 20 watt
electronic halogen PAR20 lamps. R63 lamps are available with a choice of 2700K or 3000K colour
temperatures.
