Independent tests rank GE CFLs Best In Class

GE Lighting’s CFLs come first in tests conducted by Norwegian Consumer Association

September 2009 – GE Lighting’s CFLs have been recognised as best in class by the Norwegian Consumer Association, Forbrukerrapporten, in independent tests carried out to assess the performance of CFLs against manufacturers’ claims.

GE Lighting won both the 7-9W and 10-12W categories with its Biax Electronic and Biax Mini Eco lamps. In the 10-12W category GE’s lamps took first and second place.

Forbrukerrapporten tested lamps in a special laboratory measuring energy consumption, lumen output, safety, quality of light and lifetime. GE Lighting’s lamps scored particularly high for lifetime, low failure rates and lumen output, receiving first place in the two power categories in which they were tested.

Speaking about the endorsement, Mike Barrett, Sales General Manager for Professional Lighting - UK, Ireland & Nordics said; “With the current phase out of incandescent lamps there has been much speculation in the media about the quality of some CFL technology. The Norwegian Consumer Association’s findings demonstrate that our CFLs are a robust and energy efficient alternative to incandescent lamps, providing good quality light, long lifetime and considerable energy savings. This endorsement comes on the back of similar tests conducted in Sweden in April by 'Råd & Rön,' the Swedish Consumer Association's publication, in collaboration with the international testing organization ICRT, in which our Biax-class CFLs won three out of the four categories in which they were tested.

CFL technology has advanced considerably over the last few years, providing light quality equivalent to incandescent lamps, significant energy savings and longer life. Further to that, modern CFLs are often dimmable, have ‘instant-on’ technology and come in many shapes and sizes, such as our new Energy Smart™ lamp.

GE Lighting’s new Energy Smart™ CFL has been designed to provide all the energy saving benefits of a CFL in the shape of a traditional incandescent. Available in warm and daylight colour temperature options and providing light output equivalent to a traditional incandescent, GE’s Energy Smart™ bulbs use up to 80% less energy than incandescent bulb’s and last up to 10 times longer.
