American lamps have a more complex
order code that includes lamp dimensions.
The fluorescent lamp section of the GE Spectrum Catalogue is divided into a number of
sections for the main shapes such as T5 Miniature, T8, T12, etc.
Within each section the following data is given:
-
Watts
-
Length in ft and mm
-
Colour Temperature (CCT)
-
Colour Rendering (Ra)
-
Rated Average Life
-
Initial Lumens
-
Pack Quantity
HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE (HID) LAMPS
This family of lamps includes:
-
Lucalox - high pressure
sodium
-
Multi-Vapor - metal halide
-
Kolorlux- high pressure
mercury

Low Pressure Sodium Lamps
Low pressure sodium lamps, although similar to high pressure sodium lamps, are not
really HID lamps, and are more closely related to fluorescent tubes. They are manufactured under
the SOX and SOX-E product names. Because of their monochromatic yellow colour their use is mainly
restricted to roadway lighting. However the narrow customer base should not be underestimated, as
they are a valuable contribution to discharge lamp sales.
Lucalox (High Pressure Sodium)
The Lucalox order code is relatively simple.
The first component, LU, defines the lamp as being Lucalox.
The second component defines the lamp wattage.
The third component defines the lamp operating voltage (this should not be confused with
supply voltage).
The fourth component defines the bulb shape and finish.
