Incandescent Identification Codes
Every incandescent lamp has a GE order code. The code identifies the specific characteristics of the lamp. We recommend customers order lamps by this code, so you must know what the code means and how to translate it into a product code.

The first group of digits typically identifies the wattage of the lamp.

Figure 2.8. First component of lamp order code.

The second component of the order code usually identifies the shape of the bulb.

Figure 2.9. Second component of lamp order code.

A1 = gls
PL = Pluslife
C1 = Candle
P1 = Pygmy
LC1= Large Candle
PAR = Parabolic Aluminised
DL = Double Life
PT1 = Miniature Pilot
G = Decorative Round
R = Reflector
M1 = Mushroom
SL = Striplight

Figure 2.10. Bulb shape codes.

Figure 2.10 above lists the codes that account for most incandescent bulb shapes. Note A1 is used for gls (general lighting service) lamps because they are termed Arbitrary in US. Note also that for American lamps the digit indicates the size of a particular shape. In Europe the number does not change for different bulb sizes.
