Environmental - Wastewater Generation

Volume reduction

Investments aiming to reduce water consumption are having a positive impact on the amount of wastewater generated. These investments have included the recycling of cooling water in the production circle as well as the replacement of water cooling compressors with air cooling systems.

Quality improvement

As a result of investments to modernise the wastewater treatment at the Zalaegerszeg plant the amount of wastewater discharged has decreased and the quality has been improved.

A two-level wastewater treatment system was established, which resulted in considerable reduction of COD-levels, in the case of oily wastewater. The changes are shown in the figure below.

This project was prepared and implemented with the help of the Six Sigma approach. The central idea behind Six Sigma is that if you can measure how many defects you have in a process, you can systematically figure out how to eliminate them and get as close to zero defects as possible. This method is used widely across GE in all departments, including EHS, to ensure the highest levels of quality possible in products and processes.
