GE Volunteers, Lighting the Way in Our Communities

GE Lighting teams work globally to provide world-class lighting solutions, and take time to engage in local GE Lighting neighborhoods as a corporate partner and community advocate. GE Lighting Volunteers work with local civic leaders to improve the locations in which they live and work through educational support, community building, environmental and health awareness programs. In the past five years, GE Lighting volunteers supported local communities in 14 countries through more than 700 projects, which have totaled more than 60,600 hours.

Education is the main focus of GE Lighting's community outreach programming. GE Lighting volunteers around the world mentor, tutor and support underrepresented youth, while placing emphasis on the importance of learning about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Our team is working to close the skills gap by exciting students about the STEM fields and engaging them in real-world, hands-on projects. Through our programs and support, we strive to create the world's next top innovators and leaders.

Community Building & Environment

GE-Lighting-Community-Building-volunteers-250x175 GE Lighting volunteers take pride in their communities and engage in projects to continue to improve neighborhoods for local residents. Our team can be found in communities around the world building homes in partnership with local nonprofits, completing mass renovations on local youth and special needs camp facilities, recycling materials to make toys for children, stuffing comfort bears for children in hospitals or shelters, and much more.

Within GE, our leaders and employees continue to build a culture of health and our GE Volunteers are working to bring that culture to communities. From programs that encourage strength, nutrition and flexibility for youth, to participating in walks for health-related causes, to skill-based volunteering through the GE Foundation's Developing Health program, our team is proud to help make a positive impact in the health of others.

Cleveland is privileged to be one of GE Foundation's Developing Health™ U.S. cities. GE Volunteers from the Lighting and Healthcare business have partnered with Neighborhood Family Practice to improve primary access to healthcare in the region. Volunteers are supporting programs that will improve such components as patient wait times, customer service, and hiring and retention of staff.

To create the largest impact for individuals and communities, GE Lighting has strategically partnered with three key organizations. Through employee and corporate contributions, organizations such as United Way Worldwide, Foundation Fighting Blindness and help complement the work of our global GE Volunteers Network.
