São Paulo, November 10th, 2014 – As of November, Rio de Janeiro (RJ) will receive the official headquarters of the fifth GE Global Research Center. With a diversified portfolio in the health, energy, lighting, aviation, and oil and gas areas, GE performed the whole luminotechnical project of the Center in partnership with the Foco Design lighting project office, whose main objective was to offer eco-efficient lighting.
For the lighting of the laboratories, external areas and façade, more than 5000 items were used, including since lights with long life and high efficiency T5 lamps to integrated LED and linear LEDs systems for special applications. “We presented an economically feasible and environmentally responsible project, as the solutions used reduce the annual energy consumption from 20% to 60%, depending on the installed product when compared to the conventional lamps”, Alexandre Ferrari, general manager at GE Lighting for Brazil, explains.
In addition, all project solutions are part of the GE Ecomagination concept, commitment adopted by the company for almost 10 years and whose objective is to develop innovating technologies, which fulfill the environmental challenges brought by the global economical growth. According to Ken Herd, leader of the GE Global Research Center in Brazil, with the urgency to protect the environment, the world tries changes in the infrastructure area, which drives the adoption of more efficient solutions even more and reduces the energy consumption.
“The objective of the Research Center is to work on analyses for the development of new technologies, which mainly fulfill the demands of the infrastructure growth in Brazil and the region”, he comments. “Thus, it makes sense to adopt eco-efficient technologies in its physical structure to be an example to expand the rational use of the natural resources in the Country, even more with the quality of the GE Lighting Ecomagination solutions”, the executive adds.
Since the launching of the Ecomagination platform, GE has already invested US$ 12 billion in research and development and has generated more than US$ 160 billion in revenues. The proper company has reduced its greenhouse effect gas emission by 32% since 2004 and the use of sweet water by 45% since 2006.
