BENTONVILE, Ark., April 7, 2014 — Walmart announced plans today to purchase GE energy-efficient LED ceiling lighting fixtures for all new Supercenters in the United States, along with new and remodeled stores in Asia and Latin America, and their ASDA locations in Europe, furthering the retailer's goal to reduce energy consumption in stores 20 percent by 2020. The move, just in time for Earth Month, will use 40 percent less energy than lighting sources historically used in stores. It is the largest purchase of GE LED lighting to date, and the most recent example of leadership from Walmart and GE to find and scale innovative, energy-efficient lighting solutions.
