Sustainable environment at GE Lighting Europe

Sustainable environment at GE Lighting Europe

We are committed to operate all our production facilities in full compliance with all applicable environmental law, regulations and to minimize our environmental impact.

In order to achieve excellent environmental performance GE has developed a robust environmental program that clarifies the company-wide environmental expectations from all operational sites. This program consists of 6 elements covering all environmental media, including identification of any air, wastewater, waste generation sources, identification of obligations and implementation of procedural controls.

In order to ensure the appropriate functioning of the EHS system, several auditing methods are performed.

  • Every year a self-assessment is carried out in each facility in order to find and tackle potential environmental problems.
  • Compliance audits and Environmental program audits, which are performed every two years by business headquarters EHS team, mainly concentrate on legal compliance issues as well as industrial best practices within GE Lighting and also to verify site conformity with GE internal Environmental expectations.
  • Operating reviews are in-depth reviews of GE Corporate Environmental Programs (CEP) by Corporate EHS staff in a region or country. These reviews are intended to evaluate the overall integrity of the EHS system and to highlight areas where improvements are needed.
  • 3rd party audits are carried out in order to have verified by an independent firm that our Environmental Management System is operated in accordance with the ISO 14001:2004 standard.
In GE Lighting EMEA, Central Environmental Health and Safety Department and 7 operation sites have been ISO certified for more than 10 years. For more information, you can download our ISO 14001 Certificate and GE Citizenship report.
