Restrictions of Hazardous Substances - RoHS – GE Lighting Europe

Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) and RoHS II Directive (Recast – 2011/65/EU)

Since July 2006, EU Member States have to ensure that new electrical and electronic items placed on the market do not contain any of these substances - in quantities exceeding the maximum concentration values:

  • Lead (0,1%)
  • Cadmium (0,01%)
  • Mercury (0,1%)
  • Hexavalent chromium (0,1%)

We at GE pay special attention to the compliance of our products with the regulations and thus follow the obligatory requirements set up in the RoHS II Directive:

  • Draw up technical documentation and conduct a strict control of production;
  • EC declaration of conformity (DoC) and CE mark on the finished products;
  • Technical documentation and DoC kept for ten years after the Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) has been placed on the market;
  • It is obligatory to keep a register of non-conforming EEE and product recalls, and keep distributors informed;
  • The EEE must bear a type, batch or serial number or other element allowing identification;
  • Indicate name, registered trade name or registered trade mark and the address on the EEE;
  • If a noncompliant product is placed on the market immediate corrective actions are necessary to bring that EEE into conformity, to withdraw it or recall it, if appropriate and immediately inform the competent national authorities of the Member States in which the EEE was made available;
  • Based on request, the information and documentation necessary to demonstrate the conformity of the EEE to a competent national authority is made available, in a language which can be easily understood by that authority;

The REACH (EC No. 1907/2006) regulation concerns the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals (REACH) placed on the market. This is in place to protect human health and the environment from the risks arising from the use of chemicals. At GE Lighting Europe, we pay special attention to this legislation as well.
