Designed Architectural Lighting (DAL) has specified T5 Longlast™ fluorescent lamps and CMH G8.5 Mini lamps from GE Lighting for the company's range of luminaires installed in the Aviva Stadium, Ireland. With over 12,000 luminaires going into the new stadium, the lamps were selected to provide a reliable and exceptionally long service life to extend the periods between relamping and to provide high levels of energy efficiency while offering uniform light to enhance the viewing experience within the stadium.
The Aviva Stadium in Dublin is Ireland's new international sports venue. Formerly known as Lansdowne Road, the old stadium was demolished in 2007 and has been rebuilt with a capacity of 50,000. As part of the project, the stadium required a high performance lighting scheme that would reduce maintenance requirements and reduce energy use.
Designed Architectural Lighting (DAL) supplied luminaires throughout the stadium. A combination of around 65% T5 Longlast™ fluorescent and 35% 35W CMH G8.5 Mini lamps from GE Lighting were specified for use within the DAL luminaires to offer high performance combined with excellent visibility and colour rendering.
GE Lighting's T5 Longlast™ fluorescent lamps have been specifically developed to use where re-lamping is difficult and maintenance costs are high, such as the new Aviva stadium where they were installed within the bar areas, hospitality suites and offices. With a service life of up to 26,000 hours, re-lamping requirements are reduced, while the lamps continue to cut energy costs.
Also used within the DAL luminaires, for the large number of external pedestrian walkways, were 35W CMH G8.5 Mini lamps from GE Lighting. Ultra efficient, offering high energy and low maintenance, the CMH G8.5 Mini lamps provide superior long life and lumen performance resulting in 33% extra lumens at end of life when compared with standard CMH lamps. The efficiency of the lamps also result in extended lamp replacement cycles as well as reduced maintenance costs.
