Thoughts from Lux Live 2013: Shedding Light on Retail






It was of course no surprise that retail figured so heavily at this year's Lux Live and certainly from GE Lighting's perspective much of the discussion on stand was around the challenge facing major retailers, who are looking to significantly reduce energy costs whilst maintaining their portfolio's look and feel. The conference agenda too featured a number of case studies - including our own projects for Sainsbury's and Mitchells and Butlers – and there was a thought-provoking panel discussion on retailers' attitudes to LEDs.

The panel discussion in particular sparked our interest – as early adopters of LEDs, the retail sector's relationship with the technology has a somewhat chequered past and the industry is still suffering from a legacy of some poor performing installations. A retailer's relationship with light is in many ways, also quite unique. ‘Look and feel' will always figure more highly than energy efficiency and our discussions are in terms of outcomes, not product.

We spoke to Mark Faithfull, Editor of Retail Property Analyst and our own Francesco De Vivo about the key issues that surfaced during the event.
