GE Lighting held a “Dialogue with Designers” roundtable on 1 March, which saw reputable industry experts and designers discussing the future trends of lighting design

GE Lighting held a “Dialogue with Designers” roundtable on 1 March, which saw reputable industry experts and designers discussing the future trends of lighting design. The event is an integral part of GE Lighting's Designer series of activities at this year's China (Beijing) International Lighting Exhibition & LED Lighting Technology and Applications Exhibition in Beijing.

Panel speakers for the roundtable session include: Ms. Xu Huai, Secretary General of China Illuminating Engineering Society; Mr. Xu Hua, Chief Engineer of Tsinghua Institute of Architectural Design; and Mr. Bing Shu Kui, Deputy Director of China Illuminating Engineering Society. The well-attended event saw more than 60 participants, including lighting designers, architects, industry professionals and end-users, exchanging views on the role of quality lighting design and the future of the industry.

At the Beijing exhibition, GE Lighting also hosted topical seminars and discussions focusing on Retail, Hospitality and Stadium lighting solutions for exhibition participants as well as representatives of interior design firms, shopping malls, hotels, and stadiums. At these sessions, GE Lighting shared on its views towards the importance of lighting design, examples of well-executed projects, GE green technology and solutions, and how these have created value for its customers.

As Mohamed Butt, President and CEO of GE Lighting Asia said, “GE Lighting's long-standing history dates back to more than 100 years and we have stood at the forefront of technology and innovation. At this exhibition, we wanted to provide conducive platforms for both lighting designers and industry professionals to interact. We are very pleased with the participants' strong response and positive feedback. Through such opportunities to learn from each other's experiences, we hope to inspire more sharing and innovative thinking, thereby contributing towards the future growth of the lighting industry.”

GE Edison Awards

At the Beijing exhibition, a key highlight is a showcase of the history and recent winning works of the prestigious GE Edison Awards. President and CEO Mr. Butt also added that these works illustrate the energy-saving and environmental value that can be created through good design solutions.

The GE Edison Awards were first introduced in 1983 with the aim of recognizing excellence and quality in professional lighting designs. The annual competition is open internationally to lighting professionals who creatively employ significant use of GE light sources (lamps and/or LEDs) in a lighting design project. A panel of five judges will assess the entries based on the following criteria: functional excellence, architectural compatibility; effective use of state-of-the-art lighting products and techniques; appropriate color, form and texture revelation; energy effectiveness; and cost effectiveness.

Commented by Mohamed Butt, “The GE Edison Awards were first established to encourage innovation in the lighting industry. Over the years, the Awards have garnered strong support from lighting designers around the world and we continue to encourage participation so that outstanding works can be given their due recognition. At the Beijing exhibition this year, through the showcase of GE Edison Award's recent winning works, we seek to demonstrate once again the importance of good design and quality products in lighting projects. As we look ahead, GE Lighting will continue to play a key role in facilitating discussions and the generation of innovative ideas in the industry so that together, we can build a sustainable future.”
